Who We Are

Built by coaches. For the athletes coming up behind them.

Elite, sport-specific strength and conditioning has always been available to college and professional athletes — but almost never to the club athletes coming up behind them. We're changing that, starting with field hockey.

The Founder

Casey Thompson

Casey played Division I field hockey at Boston University, graduating in 2023. A four-year starter in the midfield, she became the first field hockey player in Patriot League history to be named to the Academic All-PL Team four times, and was named to the NFHCA Division I All-Star Senior Team.

Before BU, Casey played club field hockey for Northeast Elite (NEE) — the club she'd go on to coach for six years before moving to Nashville, TN. She's now head coach for the Franklin High School varsity team and the Nashville Field Hockey Club.

Casey's coaching career started at NEE her freshman year of college, and it didn't take long to see the pattern: the athletes she coached were dealing with the exact same thing she had experienced — talented, driven, but not physically fit enough to play to their full potential.

It wasn't until she got to BU that Casey experienced what intentional, sport-specific strength and conditioning actually looked like — and saw her own game jump as a result. The athletes she coached would ask her for extra workouts and guidance on how to actually train. The more she looked into it, the clearer it became that this wasn't a commitment problem — it was an access problem. Nothing existed that was field hockey specific, let alone position specific, for youth athletes.

That gap is what became VarsityAI.

Head Strength & Conditioning Coach

Claire Sporer

Claire was Casey's own Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for field hockey at Boston University, where she worked directly with the team from 2019 to 2021. That firsthand experience training DI field hockey athletes — the same experience that shaped Casey's own breakthrough as a player — is exactly why she's leading programming at VarsityAI today.

Claire is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC), and holds a USAW Level 1 certification, with nearly a decade of experience training collegiate athletes at the DI level. She began her career at Seattle University, rising from Assistant Strength, Speed & Conditioning Coach to Associate Director of Athletic Performance, before spending three years as Associate Director of Athletic Performance for Women's Basketball at Michigan State University. Today, Claire serves as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for Women's Basketball and Women's Beach Volleyball at the University of Oregon — one of the top athletic programs in the country.

She earned her B.S. in Sport and Exercise Physiology from Plymouth State University, where she competed on the varsity volleyball and track and field teams, and her M.Ed. in Applied Human Development and Coaching from Boston University's Wheelock College of Education & Human Development.

At VarsityAI, Claire is building the exercise library and programming logic from the ground up. Every single workout, progression, and benchmark exists for a reason: to develop the specific strength, speed, and movement quality a field hockey athlete needs to perform at her highest level — and stay healthy doing it.

The Company

Closing a gap that's existed in youth sports for years.

VarsityAI combines expert-built strength and conditioning programming with AI-driven personalization to give club athletes access to the kind of training previously reserved for Division I programs. Every exercise in our library is built by expert strength and conditioning coaches specifically for the movements, positions, and demands of your sport — not adapted from a generic template.

Athletes get a program that adjusts to them: their training experience, season phase, position, equipment access, and goals. Clubs get a partner that helps them deliver better outcomes without building an in-house S&C program from scratch. And for athletes with recruiting ambitions, VarsityAI benchmarks their performance against real Division I data — turning "trust me, I'm working hard" into a verified, coach-endorsed fitness profile.

“VarsityAI exists because no one had this when we needed it. Now every club athlete has a teammate in their corner — one that trains with them, tracks their progress, and never stops pushing them toward their full potential.”
